Pioneers fall in non-league battle, face season-ending stretch of league games

The St. Paul Pioneers fell to the Kansas City Bulldogs 16-14 in a knock-down, drag-out battle between two top Midwestern squads. The Pioneers had a chance to win the game in the end, but missed a 38-yard field goal will less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Kansas City led 10-0 at halftime, but the Pioneers' defense came storming back. Safety Desmond Stevenson returned a fumble for a touchdown and QB Cleve McCoy scored a rushing TD to take a 14-10 lead.

But the Bulldogs showed their own defensive ability. They scored a fourth quarter touchdown after a Pioneers fumble to retake the lead.

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 5-3 overall, 4-1 in the NEFL West.. St. Paul closes the season after the 4th of July bye with three straight games to finish the NEFL regular season. The Pioneers' next game is July 9 against the Minnesota Sting at Sea Foam Stadium.

The Pioneers trail the North Bank Bulls by a game in the Minnesota division, after losing to the Bulls earlier this year. The Bulls and Pioneers play the last game of the regular season.
